Nota d'usoRound o around ( around è più comune nell'inglese americano) si usano entrambi in riferimento a un movimento circolare: The hands go round the clock, le lancette dell'orologio si muovono in tondo.Da questa “circolarità”, around, round derivano un significato di “dappertutto” nel senso di “tutto intorno”, che appartiene anche a about ( around è più comune nell'inglese americano): The toys are scattered about (o around, round) the room, i giocattoli sono sparpagliati per tutta la stanza.Con il significato di “attorno”, about è usato meno spesso rispetto a round (in inglese britannico) e around (in inglese americano): The guests were seated round the table, gli ospiti erano seduti attorno al tavolo.About si usa più comunemente di around con il significato di “approssimativamente, circa”: The company has about a thousand employees, la compagnia ha circa mille impiegati; round about si usa colloquialmente con lo stesso signficato: I think it's round about one o'clock, penso sia circa l'una; ma round da solo non si usa mai in queste espressioni. -
